Introduction

Good Afternoon,  My name is Jocelyn Gutierrez. I aspire to be an elementary teacher in the near future. Currently, I am taking a course on using technology in education. Personally I believe technology such an important role in our children's education. Technology is something that is becoming more dependent as we grow. Each generation is more and more dependent on it. Todays topic for my blog is Digital commincational tools, I believe if we learn about them we can use them in a beneficial way.  I hope you enjoy!

Social Media for Educational Networking

Image
Social media is extremely used in these new generations. I feel the whole purpose of owning a phone now, is for social media. Social media can also mean social networking. Meeting new people, creating bonds, getting job opportunities, learning, etc.  "For example, principals or administrators can find a new way to integrate social media. Like sharing school news via social networks, holding online meeting with the parents or even starting fundraising for different projects (Lori Wade)." The first thing we do each morning, is check our social medias. If schools use this as a main source of communication, all students will become informed more easily and understandable.  However, social media can also be very dangerous. Most of the bullying happens on social media. It is important to manage these pages, and notice the interactions between others.

Texting as a Learning Tool

Image
Texting is an informal way of communication. Texting is regularly through phone while it can also be through other sites.  Texting can be used as an activity such as this one, "Use texting to launch discussions on formal versus informal language, comparing syntax, language, grammar, and usage of text and IM [instant messaging] with formal, written English. Recognize that testing IS writing! Although it may not be traditional writing, every text and instant message your students send is engaging them with language and print. Take advantage of student activities to build relevant lessons on writing for different audiences and purposes (LD Online)." Where texting is not a great way of formal grammar, and show choices of improvement. However, it can also create an easier way to create brainstorming and discussions.  We live texting, and maybe it is just the way to connect with our students. Might as well, take what they do everyday and make a learning experience.

E-mail in Education

Image
Email (short for "electronic mail") is a way of sending messages or information over the internet. It works like regular mail, but instead of using paper, it sends digital messages from one person or computer to another. You can send text, pictures, files, or links to someone, and they can reply back. All you need is an email address, which is like a digital "mailbox" where you send and receive messages. Personally I believe e-mail is the most professional out of all of the communication strategies. It will also prepare students on how to formally write an e-mail. In high school, more than ever, I feel we should be teaching students how to formally write an email and the uses. In the real world, in a professional basis, e-mail is the first form of communication.  Having a student e-mail can allow access to many different websites. In college, your e-mail can allow you to have free subscriptions, library access, etc. Having an e-mail creates so many educational link...
